Poem a Day Challenge: Day 12

While I have not posted my daily work, I have twelve haiku written for the month. I recently read Ten Ways to Improve Your Haiku by Michael Dylan Welch and found it quite helpful.

Having been raised on the 5-7-5 tradition of haiku, I am working to break free of its grasp. I am paying attention to the “kigo” words (season words) more as well as thinking of juxtaposition.

It’s a holiday for me today. A day to spend on polishing up some submissions for Frogpond, the journal of the Haiku Society of America. Such a gift of time today.
