Third grade has been up in the computer lab researching different countries as part of their social studies on cultures. It’s important that students learn that from research they can be creators of poems.
So today, I used a cinquain poem from another third grade class as a model for my two other third grade classes. This worked beautifully.
The next step will be to type up the poems for the next family library night in April. Students and families will have the opportunity to create a “Poem in Your Pocket” to share with others on the actual day, April 18. This of course will also celebrate National Poetry Month.

I really like how you merged their research into poetry. Can’t wait to share this with my students!
Very creative. What a fun way to bring in informational text with playfulness.
