SOLSC 2014: My One Little Word

Welcome to SOLSC 2014. Thanks to the crew of Two Writing Teachers for hosting this every week.
Last week I shared that my OLW for 2013 was MINDFUL and it served me well. This year I had a list: grace, open, and believe. BELIEVE first appeared on a copper bracelet I purchased in 2008 while waiting for to hear if I became a Nationally Board Certified Library Media Specialist. the bracelet said: “DREAM BELIEVE ACHIEVE.’ So the word has been with me a bit. I selected BELIEVE for a couple of different reasons. It’s the word for our school this year. You get to have two New Year celebrations when you work in a school. Here’s what you will find when you walk into our building:

And I found this rock at Coldwater Creek (of all places) last fall and it called to me.

For 2014, BELIEVE will help me to remember:
~that I can send my manuscript to agents.
~that I can begin finding ways to submit poems for publication.
~the beauty in capturing the unusual and incredible natural world through photography.
~what I can gain from deeply listening to students.
~the power of friendships and family.
~the importance of taking care of myself through exercise.
~what’s possible in the universe and the wonder of it all if you believe.

What’s your One Little Word?

It seems that it has been calling to you since the autumn, Jone. I like that you wrote some predictions already about the support you’ll receive from your OLW. I hadn’t thought of that at all! Best wishes for the poems!

Believe seems like a terrific word! I can’t wait to read those published poems!

  3. I love your word…the list was also very thoughtful …I especially liked that you are going to submit poems for publication. Happy New Year xo

I love way that “believe” for you includes a spirit of adventure! P.S. The stone is simple yet beautiful!
