Enjoy everyone’s slices at Two Writing Teachers.
I am still figuring out the ropes of where to send poems for publication. I missed out on the earlier editions of the Poetry Friday Anthologies because of my naivety.
BUT
last fall I paid attention and saw the call for poems for the next Poetry Friday Anthology: Celebrations. I submitted a few poems but what Janet Wong and Sylvia Vardell really needed was a Super Bowl Sunday poem. A poem for preK/ELL students.
Now I am not the world’s biggest football fan. My husband is the football fan in our house, especially college ball (Oregon Ducks) and pro-ball. So knowing football came through the immersion method, attending watching parties (where I crochet). We have had a very exciting run in the Pacific Northwest with college and professional football.
I understand the game time, party time atmosphere of watching the Super Bowl. So I wrote a poem for them and it was accepted. I was over the moon. We polished it up and I am happy-thrilled-proud to say it’s available on Amazon as of today, PI day.
It’s designed for librarians and teachers and there’s a student version available. In April, during National Poetry Month, two other local poets and I will be doing a reading and poetry activity at the Barnes and Noble near my school. (While not an independent book store, as there isn’t one for kids in Vancouver, WA, this B/N does support the schools well).
Missed this yesterday, but am very happy for you, Jone. Congratulations. I’m ordering the book for sure-love all the others.
Oh wonderful! Bravo!
How awesome! I went to UofO, but I’m not into sports…so i call myself a pseudo-fan of the Ducks! I like how you participate (crocheting) haha!
OH_MY_GOODNESS!!!!!!! You must be soooo excited. I am so happy for you. I can’t imagine how exciting that day in Barnes and Noble will be. Congratulations!! 🙂
Congratulations! This is an accomplishment to be proud of! Sounds like you worked hard- and had some fun, too – doing your research.
Congratulations – that IS an accomplishment!
Oops, you spell your name Jone, I remember now!
So cool Joan!
That’s a great acomplishement. Though we write mostly for ourselves and we have an inherent need to write, it is always encouraging to receive public recognition in this way.
Congratulations, that is exciting news! National Poetry Month will be a great celebration for you this year!
And I am always finding new connections to fellow slicers that I didn’t realize…I lived in Battle Ground, WA in the 80’s. Some good friends lived in Vancouver. I don’t remember Barnes and Noble there…
It may have been built late 80’s-90’s. Thanks for stopping by.
