SOLSC15 Day 15: My Brother

IMG_0785

Thanks to Two Writing Teachers for the challenge to write a SOL every day in March.  Can’t believe we’re half way there.

It’s the Ides of March.  It’s my younger and only sibling’s birthday.

Scan 159Jon, probably 5 0r 6.

Being three years younger, Jon could be a pest.  We seemed though to get a long most of the time and our friends all played together.

We lived in Monrovia, CA from 1958-1963.  During that time the neighborhood kids were a pretty group.  One summer we even organized a talent show.  I roller skated to music.  My brother and his friend dresses as clowns and beat up on each other.  All participants receive home made ribbons, “The Best …..”  The neighbors all rallied to see their children in this extravaganza.

Someday I hope to get the film changed to a DVD of the event.  Funny how some memories just stick with you.

  1. Happy birthday to Jon! What a great memory to have retrieve in honor of the event.

  2. Lori says:

Our kids were always doing shows for us. My childhood didn’t have this, probably because our audiences were pigs and cows. The joy of growing up on a farm.

  3. Cathy Thompson says:

A few years ago, I had all of the home movies from my childhood and my husband’s childhood transferred to DVD. I gave each of my 3 adult children a copy. They often mention a scene that they watched. I am so glad I did ot. Don’t hesitate to do do the DVD for you and your family.

  4. This sounds like a fun memory! We live in a culdesac without many kids and sometimes I wish my kids had more friends in the neighborhood to play with just to have memories like this. They do have each other. Siblings are the best.
