I’ve been reading some poetry of Wistawa Szmborska. So today’s line is from her poem, “Golden Anniversary”: One day the answer came before the question
One day the answer came before the question
in the middle of math
the student in the back of the room
raises their hand
the student who shuffles into class late
raises their hand
We’d been puzzling over prime numbers
and square roots
We could plant carrots and potatoes
to help with hunger.

It’s Tuesday, time to share our slices at Two Writing Teachers.
Oh, how that warmed my soul! Beautiful – both the moment and your poem about it.
That’s great! I am exhausted today and so I had to read the piece twice, but it is so typical, so random, so funny…
Thank you.
I love the image you paint of this student, I can see him sitting in the back of the room. It makes the last two lines such a surprise and reminds me not to be judgmental! I want to know more about this situation…thanks for sparking my imagination!
