Poetry Friday is at Teaching Authors. Thanks, Joanne
Ode to the Opiliones
For years you inhabited my shower
I watched your nimble long legs
stay away from the water.
I listened for your grumbles
about the amount of steam
or your warnings to your babies.
You remained silent.
The grandgirls weren’t thrilled
to share the shower with arachnids
but we managed
a peaceful coexistence.
I wonder
if you are still allowed
to take up residency.

Backstory: We had a family of Daddy Longlegs that lived in the shower of our former house. They didn’t bother my husband or myself so we allowed them to stay. They did sort of gross out the grandgirls.
I do like spiders–and finding out Daddy longlegs’ proper name opiliones. Can one say, lovely poem about a Daddy longlegs, well, I will, thanks for all!
Nicely done, Jone! I like to “manage a peaceful coexistence” with arachnids also. I don’t often find them in the shower, but they seem to love congregating in my washing machine!
I love this one, although showering with spiders, a new concept for me. Where did you get that badge that unites the heron with Poetry Friday, and can I use it in my posts?
Brenda, I created the badge from a photo, taken at the Tualatin Wildlife Refuge. Of course you may use. Thank you for asking.
Great photo. I will definitely use it. 🙂 Thanks!
LOVE – of course, I love. Thanks for sharing, Jone – your poem and your peaceful hearts!
I learn so much every time you post. Thank you! 🙂
Wow, Jone. You do have some stories, don’t you?! I’m with Linda… I LOVE the grumbling about the steam line!
The poor spiders in our shower didn’t have a chance once my daughter came along. She does not tolerate them at all. Maybe your poem would give her a different perspective.
Oh dear, I’d be one of the grandbabies, I’m not much of a fan of daddy long-legs! Eeeek!
It must have been fascinating to watch those daddy-long-legs, Jone. I like “your grumbles
about the amount of steam”. This observation is fascinating to me!
Great story! I had such an image of the spider family. Thank you for sharing 🙂
