October 19: #PURPLETHURSDAY

Love Shouldn’t Hurt…

I’m a survivor.  I wrote this in 2016 but haven’t publicly shared.  My former husband died earlier this year.  I still feel the pain after almost three decades.  Less now but my body has memories.

This Cycle of Abuse

hold me, she pleads
he retreats,
pushing her away
beginning a cycle of abuse

I’m sorry, he pleads
her fear retreats,
believing him,
continuing a cycle of abuse

listen to me, she pleads
pummeling her back, he retreats
will it end, the cycle of abuse

I’m sorry, he pleads – sanity retreats in abuse

Oh Jone…..at least you got away. Hate, abuse, anger so horrible. I am sorry you suffered. There was no journal in Cabin 10 at Highlights, so I could not see who’d been there before. I thought of you because I was so happy you were there before me in maybe Cabin 18 last time. It was a terrific workshop and time.
