Besides the daily haiku, I’ve been getting prompts from Two Sylvias Press everyday. I am woefully behind on the daily prompts! That said, I’m pretty please with myself that I sat down and knocked out some revisions on my novel for writing group. We meet tomorrow.
So on Day 3 the daily prompt was to include the following:
- a vintage typewriter
- a college
- a state
- a piece of jewelry
- a tool
- a vintage album
- and begin the poem: “In a few days, I’ll be…”
Here’s my take:
Leaving SoCal
In a few days, I’ll be in Oregon
leaving the SoCal cement and beaches
for trees, hummingbirds and a tumbleweed connection
taking my vintage typewriter and a suitcase
leaving the SoCal cement and beaches
saying goodbye to the plastic personalities
taking my vintage typewriter and a suitcase
“travel light,” was my grandmother’s motto
saying goodbye to the plastic personalities
they couldn’t believe I was leaving for Lewis and Clark College
“travel light,” was my grandmother’s motto
and always bring a hammer, words from my brother
they couldn’t believe I was leaving for Lewis and Clark College
they gave me a garnet ring as proof of love
and always bring a hammer, words from my brother
It’s a handy tool when you come to a STOP sign.
