SOL18: Goodbye Dear Library

POETRY FRIDAY

Thanks to Michelle at Michelle Kogan for hosting Poetry Friday.

Last Friday was my official last day of work. This week it’s been unofficial cleaning out and packing up. It’s been a process much like moving out of a home you’ve lived in forever.

  1. A beautiful bitter-sweet farewell poem to your library Jone, and changing life. Wishing you many wonderful new adventures on the road ahead!

  2. Tara Smith says:

As you know, I am in the same boat, Jone. Here’s to feeling both the sadness of what’s left behind, and to the joy of the adventures to come.

  3. I love all the emotions that swirl through these stanzas. I would also love to know which book exactly was the last you put on the shelf. : ) All the best for your complicated transition!

  4. Ramona says:

The clean palette makes it a bit easier to leave. I can’t wait to hear of your upcoming adventures. I want to see pics from the libraries you visit too. I love the optimism of that last stanza and especially those last two words – seeking stories.

  5. carwilc says:

So beautiful!!! Can I admit now that I dread leaving teaching? It’s been such a big part of my life for such a long time. I especially love that last stanza. Perfect!

  6. katswhiskers says:

Such a bottomless moment, Jone. May your well of new adventures be as deep as these emotions.

  7. A bit of sadness, but it’s exciting to think that you’re about to start the first page of a new chapter. I hope it’s amazing!

  8. Just like you walked in, I’m sure….I know with all my heart you’ve made a tremendous difference within these walls and within the people that came into the space. Your beautiful exit is so terribly touching. Enjoy every moment. Even the sad ones will make others sweeter.

  9. Kay Mcgriff says:

Such a lovely poetic goodbye. Those endings are bittersweet. I wish you much joy in your retirement with many adventures in the chapters to come. I’d love to see pictures of the libraries you visit!

  10. Lovely! I hope you have a wonderful retirement.
I LOVED my library job! It took me all summer and into September to bring all my books home from school.

  11. lindabaie says:

When I left, I sat at my empty desk, the one I’d had for so many years. Somehow that was one of the hardest things to leave, a symbol. I wish you so many wonderful days to come, adventures to have, Jone. “the last book placed the shelf” is a most poignant line.

  12. jama says:

So bittersweet! I hope you follow through on your FB suggestion to visit as many different libraries as you can — sharing photos with us, of course! 🙂

  13. This makes my eyes well up.
Appreciations for all those titles, years, months, days, minutes.
    Such a legacy you leave.
Enthusiastic for your future book/poem connections.
