SOL18: Making a List

Thanks to Two Writing Teachers for creating space every Tuesday for our slices.

I’ve been thinking about the “what next” for me. I think making a list (or several) to keep track of things. I think what concerns me most in this new chapter is the lack of structure..

I wonder how others manage their time now that they are retired. Do they keep a schedule? Do they have days off?

I want to write so carving out the time is important.I’m trying to embrace summer ever if it is like an endless summer. Yesterday was decadent: two meet up with friends.

We’re traveling next week so I’ll have more time to think and make a list.

I will be here in the next few years (not exactly sure when) and it terrifies me. I know how to do the teaching life, but I don’t have a clue as to how a person does retirement. Trying to cultivate some hobbies but I’m not all that good at it.

You and I are in the same space, Jone – packing is taking up my time at the moment, and then there will be the unpacking…after that? Bring on the lists!

Before I retired, a friend assured me that each day would simply unfold. She was right, and I began to follow my passions and my heart’s desires. Easily and effortlessly, so many amazing opportunities and experiences arose, some internal and some external. And the surprises have never stopped. I am so grateful for my freedom and a brand new life. Enjoy!

I’m not retired but summer days sometimes go by and I feel I accomplished nothing. Why do we feel like we have to accomplish something every day?
