Your poem is a savory treat Jone! I still don’t like lima beans, but I eat just about everything else, and I love okra–too bad I was never offered those as a child.

  2. Alice Nine says:

Some “fungi magic” sounds great! I had favorites as a child, but I don’t remember disliking anything in particular.

  3. Your “savory brown melty morsels” sound tempting, Jone, but I’ve never been a fan of mushrooms unless they’re diced into tiny pieces. My food tastes haven’t changed much since I was a kid, although I do eat more vegetables now!

  4. I love the idea of a food poem. I love food! I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it before. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m the only one in my house who likes mushrooms but I like them enough that I’ll often sauté some up just for me.

  5. davencarlson says:

I’m always up for some fungi magic. Great work.

For me, it was coleslaw — with horseradish. Still dislike it, most of the time. And wouldn’t you know the first time I met my future-in-laws 30-some years ago, what was included in the dinner; my wife’s father’s “famous cole slaw”! I consumed it with gusto and bravery.

  6. cvarsalona says:

Jone, it was liver that made me running all around my grandma’s house with my uncle chasing me. I guess it was just too bitter for my palate as a child. Your mushrooms look delicious and yummy: “fungi magic”.

  7. Tabatha says:

Your melty morsels are making me hungry!
I like a lot of things now that I didn’t like then, but I still don’t like green peppers or chicken a la king.

  8. Maestraavega says:

    mushrooms are life!!

  9. lindabaie says:

I’m not sure there is any food I hated, now love, but there were foods I never had until I grew up, like rice! Love the fib, Jone, “waiting in pan” makes me want to add those mushrooms to my shopping list!

  10. Ham and green beans! Still not my favorite! Great poem, thanks for sharing!

  11. I disliked spaghetti as a child, and now I love pasta in every form! 🙂

  12. katswhiskers says:

Pumpkin. And peas! And actually, so many things, when I think about it. Funny how our tastebuds change.

  13. glenda funk says:

Cheese. I did not like cheese. Now I can’t live w/out it.

Your mushrooms look good. Like you, they’re a staple in my diet.

  14. What a great post. I paused and thought back to childhood. That’s always a wonderful moment. The food I can remember now is cottage cheese.
