It’s always so fun to participate in Tabatha’s Winter Poetry Swap.  And this week, an envelope arrived with this in it:

Thank you, Jackie. I plan to share with my students when I sub.

I saw an outrageous news item on television today which prompted today’s haiku:

Looks like a fun book! I heard that story about the art banana, it’s no Marcel Duchamp that’s for sure, and I think I agree with Kay above about having too much money, thanks Jone!

  2. Michelle Heidenrich Barnes says:

What a fun gift to receive from Jackie! As for the $120K banana? Well your haiku says it all.

  3. Donna Smith says:

Well, hopefully they will at least eat the banana, or better yet, give it to someone else to eat…but I guess if that were the point they could by beaucoup de bananes to eat. Best left as art, though neither the artist nor the buyers are doing much for the reputation of the art community.

    I’m loving our #haikuforkindness and #haikuforjustice hashtags!

Yes, I saw an article yesterday about 700,000 people losing their SNAP (food stamp) benefit. If only some of the money could be a little better distributed. I like your response! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com

What a great gift, Jone. Your haiku is a noteworthy response to the article about the wealth gap.

Saw the banana taped to the wall on FB and couldn’t believe it. Hope you’ll post more about Jackie’s book sometime. 🙂

Wonderful to see you now have Jackie’s book. What fun! And I did see that “art?” news, hard to believe. However, duct tape has many uses, we all know that! Ha! Love the haiku response.

  9. Kathryn Apel says:

Oh dear. I feared I might have missed a poetry swap, in my sporadic posting. But it will still be a delight to see what others give and receive. Lovely to see Jackie’s book making its way over the ocean!

  10. Linda Mitchell says:

Hooray for the winter poem swap! My package is going out a bit late as my little fingers haven’t finished it yet. I love that you have a book to read when subbing. How fun! And, I’ve been writing haiku. Many aren’t fit to share…just doodles to wake up my poetry brain. Thanks for the prompts.

  11. Kay Mcgriff says:

Oh my… I’m not sure what’s more bananas–the art installation or people’s reactions to it. As my parents and grandparents used to say, some people have more money than sense.

  12. tee+d says:

Oh. My. Word. A banana taped to a wall for HOW MUCH!? #haiku4justice indeed. Thank you for sharing!
