National Poetry Month 16/30: Lemony Velvet

This National Poetry Month(NPM), I am writing and sharing original poems about food, family and feasts. Sundays will be a day to reshare a poem from the past. A list of links to previous poems is HERE.

Mom started out married life not knowing how to boil water. She called a meat thermometer a meat THERM-O-METER (long O and she was a nurse). But over the years, she became an accomplished pie, jam, and ice cream maker.

Oh how she loved Lemon Meringue Pie. And living in SoCal, lemons were abundant. And she was fussy about the meringue. In fact, if the following photo had been her pie, she would not like that the meringue is pulling from the crust.

    It still looks delicious. I don’t make many pies, but my daughter lives to make lemon meringue pie. She’s fussy ,too.

    Wow, Jone, you have captured so much in your haiku! Perfect word choice! I want a piece of sunshine pie, now. You have inspired me to write a haiku about making homemade cavatelli with my grandparents and daughters. Thank you for sharing.
