National Poetry Month 27-28/30: Blanche’s Casserole and Tea

This National Poetry Month(NPM), I am writing and sharing original poems about food, family and feasts. Sundays will be a day to reshare a poem from the past. A list of links to previous poems is HERE.

From my notebook

There are days, Monday and today, for example where I run out of oomph for posting. The first poem was more of a challenge than I expected. It’s based on my Great Aunt Blanche’s casserole which was present every Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinner.

I believe that it’s a dish that comes from Eastern Pennsylvania’s Pennsylvania Dutch country where she and my grandmother grew up. If you have the items in the poem and throw them into a casserole dish (please steam the cauliflower first) at 350 degrees for thirty minute, you will have a savory-cheesy dish.

Recently, I’ve seen restaurants serve a tomato-cauliflower-bleu cheese soup.

I like to begin my mornings with tea. Most of the time it’s Green Tea but lately I’ve been enjoying Irish Breakfast Tea. The variety of birds at the feeders has been fun, especially the red wing blackbird.
